foreign silver coins, your faves

your favorite foreign silver coin, what is it?

or national type?

For a smaller size coin I have to say I like the French coins the best. http://worldcoingallery.com/countries/img7/69-844.jpg

Oviously thats the goddess Libertas, since she's wearing the Phyrigian cap. Nice motion, reminds me of Weinmann's WLH.

For a crown size I like the Swiss 5 Franc.

Who is this guy-- I dont know. But a hell of a dramatic, realistic portrait. Strong! With the shield and cross reverse. Nice.

For modern coinage made out of base metals, I guess I like the Italian stuff the best. Fascist and postwar too.

http://www.wcoins.com/d_ximages/c792.jpg bold fasces in that eagle's claws!

Pallas Athena reverse with olive tree and spear.

The management regrets to inform you that that's not a coin. Since it lacks a monetary denomination, it's classed as a medal.

I gotta stop reading so much.

Actually, the '35 and '36 5 mark without the swastika is preferred.

I'm not really all that fond of nazi war insignia desecrating an otherwise beautiful splayed eagle.

I've always liked this one, but I can't bring myself to call it an eagle. Looks more like a phoenix than anything else.

Hey yeah, that last one's a postwar 5 mark. Love those, got a bunch of them for five and a few for 4 and 4.50 I think they're shy a half ounce asw or so.

the five mark nazi coins-- I like the Potsdam kirche ones the best. A lot better than the Hindenbergs.

Dont overpay for nazi coins on ebay, is all I can say. nutzis are cruising ebay without learning anything about numismatic and are willing to pay premium. figure no more than 4 or 5 for a two mark and no more than 8 or 9 bucks for a 5 mark. unless it's really nice, really-- then you pay premium.

a lot of these german coins are cleaned, esp the nazi ones, and it shows. a light dip is not so bad, but a polishing is horrendous. ask before you buy.

I figured, he's a Schweitzerdeutsch hero.

The Swiss confederacy was something of an inspiration for our own. Also a lot of German Americans have early immigrant ancestors from Switzerland.

I have a few medio balboas. there are a lot of 53s out there in BU.

what I like about a lot of LatAm coins, is they say 90% and the weight on the back. makes em easy to value eh?

I have 2 of them, they are both from the 1860's. 1 larger, one smaller. Cool coins.

As far as the Balboa's, I have 4 different ones, from the 30's and 40's.

You are not following the program. It has to be a coin, which means circulating with a face value. The Britainnia are bullion rounds and not really coins. Though they are indeed beautiful.

I gotta stop reading so much.

The same "experts" who insist that Libertads are not "coins" also claim Federal Reserve Notes are "dollars."

Libertads ARE coins without a Peso denomination.

Well, given the choice of nice perky boobs ...
http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/e.../m-1985lib.jpg

or Madame Flopsalot

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/e..._Proof_Obv.png

I know which one I want in my front pocket.

But if we're talking boobs ....

No contest.

But for silver boobs, the Libertad's got it hands on;)

Re: foreign silver coins, your faves

man those are folds not boobies. like olive oyl!

libertas is a virgin goddess except in the USA where we pimp her out like a whore, a promiscuous excuse for every stupid war we decide to fight for one reason or another.

I suppose the Romans werent any better though, and they used libertas frequently on their coinage too.

oops. sorry to tar up my thread with politics. guess it's unavoidable with such national symbols though.

Folds? I don't buy it. If the fabric she's draped in is fine enough to show the dimples on her knees, perky boobs should show up clear as day .... but all I see is Granny going out for a jog without her bra on again (OK, too much. I just made myself nauseous)
